How destinations are chosen

We prioritise underserved, adventurous, outdoor and small destinations across Australia — places the major travel sites and generic aggregators tend to overlook. We're rolling out state by state, starting with Queensland, favouring lesser-known destinations within each state before its more famous anchor locations.

Where the content comes from

Every destination guide is researched from official sources — national and state park authorities, government agencies and the Bureau of Meteorology — and checked against them before it goes live. Where Audacia has visited a place, the guide says so and gives the date of the visit; otherwise it shows the date it was last reviewed. A guide that doesn't yet meet our full standard is kept out of search results until it does.

AI's role

Audacia's guides are researched and written with AI, working to fixed editorial rules: every fact must trace to an official source, nothing is invented to fill a gap, and anything likely to change within a few months is left out in favour of a link to the official alerts page.

Full destination guides are written by one of six named editorial desks, each covering a type of place rather than a region — a way of giving guides a consistent, matched voice without implying a human author. Every guide states this plainly, once, in its verification footer.

At times AI may be used to generate or improve images where none exist.

How much the AI decides on its own

Our AI agents research, draft, check and prepare each guide on their own, within the rules above. Nothing is published on this site until a person has reviewed it.

Borderline cases: when a person decides

Some calls are too important to leave to an automated check. When any of the following comes up, our agents don't settle it themselves — they flag it for a person to review before the page goes live:

• Official sources disagree on something that affects your safety — a track's distance, grade or walking time, a hazard, a closure or an access rule.
• A fact can't be traced to an official or properly licensed source.
• Aboriginal cultural sites, stories or knowledge are involved. We follow Traditional Owners' published guidance and leave out anything visitors are asked not to share.
• An image is AI-generated or AI-improved. It must show the real place faithfully, or it isn't used.
• A reader tells us something is wrong or unsafe.

If a borderline question still can't be settled, we leave the detail out and point you to the official source rather than guess.

Audacia Verified

A guide carrying the Audacia Verified stamp has had every fact in its Snapshot block checked against the official sources listed at the foot of that page, on the date shown. It's a specific, checkable process claim — not a claim about who wrote the page, or that anyone visited. Short overviews, which haven't been through that check, don't carry the stamp.

How we make money

Audacia earns a commission when you book accommodation, tours or activities through partner links on this site (currently Stay22 for accommodation and Viator for tours and activities, with more partners planned). This never affects which destinations we choose to cover or how we rank them — commission structure has no bearing on editorial decisions.
