About this site

Audacia Travel (operated by Audacia Ventures, ABN 55 853 943 393) provides destination guides, trail maps, trail data, GPX downloads and information for personal, non-commercial use. By using this site, you agree to these terms.

We are not the booking provider

Audacia Travel is not the merchant of record for any accommodation, tour or activity booked through links on this site. Bookings, payments, cancellations and any disputes are handled directly by the business you book with — Viator for tours and activities, or the accommodation booking site that Stay22's search takes you to — under their own terms and conditions.

Content accuracy

We aim to keep destination information — permits, fees, track conditions, opening hours — accurate and current, checked against official sources. Conditions can change without notice; always verify time-sensitive details (especially safety-related ones) with the relevant official body before you travel. Destinations marked "coming soon" are previews built from independent sources, not first-hand-verified guides. Maps, trail data and GPX downloads have their own section below.

Assumption of risk — outdoor and adventure activities

Many of the places, walks and activities described on this site involve inherent risks — remote or unpatrolled locations, natural hazards (water, heights, wildlife, weather, terrain), limited or no mobile phone coverage, and physically demanding conditions. Our content is general information based on our own research, not a safety assessment of you personally, and not a guarantee that any activity is safe for you. Before undertaking any activity, you are responsible for assessing your own fitness, experience and equipment, checking current conditions and any official warnings or closures with the relevant park or land manager, and making your own judgment about whether it's appropriate for you. By choosing to undertake any activity described on this site, you accept these risks.

Maps, trail data and GPX downloads

What they are. Our maps, trail pages, GPX files and any offline downloads are general planning aids, not a substitute for official park information, on-ground signs, a dedicated safety device or your own judgment. They can help you find your way, but you shouldn't rely on them as your only means of navigating.

Where the data comes from. Trail lines come from the source named on each map: official park or government datasets, or OpenStreetMap, which is community-mapped and not an official source. We show the source and the date we retrieved the data. We don't invent or create trail routes ourselves — we process the source lines for display, for example by simplifying, joining or trimming them, without changing the route they represent. Grades, distances and times come from the source.

No guarantee. Data can be incomplete, wrong or out of date. Tracks can close, move or become dangerous without notice, and GPS positions are approximate. To the extent permitted by law, we don't promise that any map, trail line, grade, distance, time or conditions notice is complete, accurate or current. Conditions notices are timestamped summaries of official alerts. They may lag behind the official source or miss changes.

Your responsibility. Before and during any walk, you are responsible for checking the relevant park authority's current alerts and closures, following on-ground signs and ranger directions (which take priority over our maps), carrying a paper map or other backup navigation, and deciding whether a route suits you. Our "Assumption of risk" section above applies to walks you plan with our maps.

Downloads and offline packs. A downloaded file or offline pack is a snapshot as at the date we retrieved the data, shown in the download. Refresh it before each trip. We may update or withdraw map data at any time, for example after a closure.

Open-data licences. Much of our map and trail data is published by others under open licences (such as Creative Commons Attribution and the Open Database Licence). That data isn't owned by us. Our Attributions page lists each source and its licence. Nothing in these terms restricts any right you have to use that data under its own licence.

No endorsement. Park authorities and data providers don't endorse or sponsor Audacia Travel.

Liability. The "Limitation of liability" section below applies to our maps, trail data and downloads. As with the rest of these terms, nothing here excludes any guarantee or right you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

Intellectual property

Text, photography and design on this site are owned by Audacia Ventures unless otherwise credited, and may not be reproduced without permission. Map and trail data from government sources and OpenStreetMap is not ours; it's used under the licences listed on our Attributions page. See our internal IP policy for how we handle inspiration from comparable sites — in short, we don't copy wording, photography or code from anyone.

Acceptable use

Don't scrape, copy or republish this site's content at scale, attempt to interfere with its operation, or use it for any unlawful purpose. This doesn't limit your rights to open data under its own licence.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Audacia excludes all liability for any loss, injury or damage arising from your use of this website, your reliance on its content (including maps, trail data, GPX files and conditions notices), or your participation in any activity, walk, tour or experience described or linked from this site — including where that activity turns out to be more difficult, hazardous or different from how it's described. This exclusion does not apply to, and nothing in these Terms limits, any liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, or any guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Fair dealing

We design this site to help you make informed decisions, not to pressure or mislead you. We won't use false urgency, hidden conditions, or deliberately confusing design to influence what you do on this site.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time; the current version always applies. Changes won't take away rights you already have in something you have bought from us.

Governing law

Audacia Ventures is registered in Queensland, Australia. These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, and any dispute relating to them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland.
