Known as the adventure capital of the Southern Tablelands — a limestone slot canyon, around 200 wild caves, and a gorge deep enough that the lookout is called The Lookdown.
Around 40km from Goulburn, Bungonia is one of the oldest protected areas in New South Wales, first set aside as a water reserve in 1872. Its centrepiece is the Bungonia Slot Canyon and Bungonia Creek Gorge, cut through limestone deep enough that the main lookout — a short walk from the Lookdown Road car park — is simply called The Lookdown.
The park holds roughly 200 wild caves (some seasonally closed to protect breeding bent-wing bats) alongside canyoning, rock climbing, abseiling and caving on offer, earning it a reputation as the adventure capital of the Southern Tablelands. It's also home to a small population of koalas and strong birdwatching, for visitors after something quieter than a canyon descent.
